Baptism Outfit and Gift Inspo
I was recently asked to be the godmother to one of my friend’s sons. They decided on God parents a while after their kids were born which is neither here nor there until it came time for the actual baptism and the dilemma of what gifts to get arose.
Traditionally, a baptism takes place shortly after the baby is born which means the kid doesn't have a personality yet; they don't know what they like or don't like, and, most importantly, they don't know what gifts are. A three-year-old on the other hand knows these things so the traditional baptism gifts of a piggy bank or a silver goblet weren't going to cut it. The other challenge was that this couple is not very religious, their family is (hence the baptism). Which isn't a problem out right, but when you search for what to get a non-religious baptism gifts nothing comes up. You either get the silver piggy bank or a baby bible. There is nothing in-between.
Without much guidance from the internet, I had to create my own guide. So, this is what I landed on…
Gift Inspo:
I ended up going the piggy bank route, but I did a personalized one in the shape of a lion. I knew I wanted to do something different. I didn’t want to get him a gift I’d get for a birthday for Christmas and the piggy bank idea from my original search stuck with me. I liked the idea that it was personalized, so he could have some ownership of the object. I also liked that it was a bit more whimsical than a classic piggy bank. It was also in the shape of an animal he truly adores so I figured it was a perfect match!
I found this one on Etsy -
I also got a book to add a bit of stimulation, something tangible that he could open and hold and understand what the gift was. I will admit, there was not a lot of thought in to choosing this book. I have no attachment to the Tiny T.Rex; this was not something I read as a child. I just thought the cover looked cute and would be a good book that he could grow in to. I found this at a local Paper source shop.
Other contenders:
Stuffed animal
College fund
Coloring book
I decided not to go the stuffed animal route because 1, he has so many already and 2, I wanted something different. I also didn’t go the college fund route because he wouldn’t get it. If he were a bit younger and didn’t understand the concept of gifts, I would have thought more about the college fund, but I wanted him to be able to open the gift and enjoy what was inside.
Outfit Inspo:
Once I figured out what gift I was going to get I needed to figure out what to wear. I was raised catholic, but haven't gone to a church in years. I always felt like you couldn't expose your shoulders in church (so scandalous) but I think times have changed…. I got my mom's approval, so must be fine.
I ended up with a light blue striped day dress that had a slimming cut. It was a mix of casual and dressy. I also just went with a sandal because I didn't want to deal with heels. TBH most people were in similar outfits so I felt right at place.
The dress was another Old Navy staple. To be honest about 50% of my wardrobe is from Old Navy… they make good pieces! I paired it with a yellow hair clip (also Old Navy). Tan sandals from Target (Hermes rip offs), pearl earrings to pick up on the white stripes in the dress and colorful bracelets. I wanted to bring some whimsy to the outfit, it was a children's affair after all!
