Let’s Talk About Perfume!
Eau de Toilette
I actually have so many opinions on perfume which is niche, I admit, but what else is this platform for?! I've been a collector of perfume bottles for years. My collection is so big I don't have enough space to display them. Granted, I live in a small apartment, with minimal counter space…. But still, you get the picture! I appreciate the artistry that goes into a bottle shape. Why was a small cube shape decided for one, but a jewel shape or starburst for another. Are they meant to serve form or function or both? In my personal opinion, I like them all. I think a classic tube is just as special as a bottle with an intricate design.
My collection started by chance. I was gifted a perfume, Flowerbomb to be exact, and thought the bottle was really cool. Then I got another perfume, and another and it just grew from there. With all these perfumes one would think I have a signature scent, or even wear perfume regularly. Fun fact, I do not. I go through phases. The collection does have a practical purpose. On the periods when I want to wear perfume I have many to choose from. And how can one really choose one signature scent when there are so many options. Don't you get bored of it? Doesn't your sense of smell change?
I was gifted a few new bottles to my collection recently, old Channel perfumes my grandmother had. And while as a child I did not like the scent, it was far too strong, I quite enjoy it now. I still think I'm a bit too young for the mature scent, but one day I'm sure I'll be donning some Number 5. Getting the right scent mixture is such an artform and so personal. I gravitate towards rich, woodsy smells with slight notes of floral. But some people want big, bold scents of incense or light and fresh scents of citrus.
Long story short… if you've come for a perfume guide, this is not your place. But if you want suggestions on what you could try next and why, you've landed at the right site. I'll touch on the three that I currently have on display/ use… and if I'm being honest, I'll have a part two of this series when I rotate out my other options!
Current Go-To: Jo Malone Star Magnolia
It's the perfect amount of floral without being sweet. Fresh and easy to wear every day. I really feel like you can't go wrong with any Jo Malone scents.
Back Up Go-To: Hugo Boss The Scent
If I'm being honest, I only got this one because my actual favorite perfume by Hugo Boss, Ma Vie was discontinued. But this does the trick if I want something heavier than the Jo Malone option. The scent is rich with floral notes and layers of deep citrus.
The One I'm Still Trying Out: Juliette Has a Gun Ode to Dullness
The reason I'm trying this one out is because I got it by accident. I had ordered a concealer from Sephora, and they shipped the perfume instead. When I went to return the perfume for my concealer at the store, they said I had to do it online and I'd probably be able to keep the perfume. Lo and Behold I did and I actually ended up liking the perfume. I'm still testing it out since it's new in the rotation. It has a really light scent, that almost doesn't smell like anything, so would be a good everyday scent.
I'm curious to know what perfume you're currently using. Or are you also a collector? What's been the coolest bottle you've owned? Drop a comment, can't wait to hear from you!
